Tony Costin and Extended Sense.
In 2015, I put together my first track using just a few sounds in the MPC DAW software I had at the time. The feeling music gave me—and the goosebumps dance music had given me since childhood—stayed with me.
Some of my most significant musical experiences came from listening to trance, house, and club music throughout the '90s. I feel too humbled to even try recreating it; there are true masters behind that world, and I prefer to enjoy it as a listener.
Music from the '70s, which I grew up with as a child, and the '80s, which shaped my youth, also left their mark on the music I make.
Extended Sense.
Minimal. Techno. Ambient. Electronic. Introspective, maybe. Real-life experiences with sound naturally led me towards an ambient electronic language. I work mostly instinctively. My long-term goal is to explore a language through rhythm and feeling.
Clubbing gives me moments that stay with me and continue to inspire me. Telling stories through sound is a different journey—one that unfolds over time, beyond the club, in our daily lives.
I can't build tracks by browsing endless sample libraries. Too many options get in the way.
I'd rather start with a handful of carefully chosen presets and shape them until they tell the story I'm after. I have to discipline myself not to open the sample browser while building a track. I'd rather create the sound than search for it. I prefer working with fewer sounds and giving each one a purpose. I begin witha theme or a sonic feeling. Then I translate it into a story that can be felt.
